Bug Description

When I log in to Unity8-lxc from lightDM, I'm confronted with the "swipe from left" unity8 tutorial. On my non-touchscreen laptop I am not able to so the "swipe" using the touchpad. I don't know if it's a hardware problem with the touchpad and its buttons, or a software issue with unity8. The only way I can exit is by using Ctrl+Alt+Del and choosing logout. I can't click on the settings icon in the upper right nor apparently use any keyboard keys to get out of the tutorial (Esc, Alt+Tab, "super", etc.).

I'll be happy to give further info if given clear instructions on how to do so. I'm an enthusiast, not a developer.

Hello,

Thanks for entering this bug report and making Ubuntu better!

I believe you can hold down the left touchpad button and drag with the touchpad to mimic the swping.

Let me know if that works for you.

no, I'm afraid I wasn't completely clear. Tapping on the touchpad or clicking on the touchpad buttons seems to do absolutely nothing. I had already tried what you're suggesting as the most logical "simulation" for swiping, with no success.

Ok, I'll admit I haven't tried it lately and I think some input changes recently went into Unity 8.

I'll try it and see if I get the same behavior as you.

I just ran "sudo unity8-lxc-setup --update-lxc" today, so I assume I have the most up-to-date packages.

I'll also add that the touchpad button click does, in fact, work in general, since I'm able to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the option to Lock/Log Out, and then click Log Out.

I can't seem to reproduce the issue you are seeing. But I think I might know of a way to work around it.

Log in as the user you are trying to use for the Unity8 LXC session and open a terminal in a normal session or do this from a VT :

$ touch ~/.config/ubuntu-system-settings/wizard-has-run

This *should* keep the unnecessary wizard from running.

That fix is supposed to disable the "welcome wizard" (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1434712/comments/15), not the "swipe tutorial". The other suggestion given at the link above didn't fix my problem, either (dbus command). But now I'm having other problems (container can't connect to the server for an update), so I'm ready to drop the whole thing for awhile. I'll try again later.
