Bug Description

I cannot enter the characters æ, ø and å in the search field in the Dash. Thus I can't search for Danishly named files.

Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
unity:
  Installed: 5.18.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 5.18.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 5.18.0-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     5.10.0-0ubuntu6 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

Rant:
I honestly can't fathom how Canonical could ship a beta product and call it a LTS release. This computer was supposded to have been my work computer (a System76 laptop). Now I waste time on working around, and reporting, grave bugs in Ubuntu/Unity. Bugs that doesn't seem to get fixed. This is unbelieveable, and I must admit that I have lost all love of Canonical and Ubuntu because of this. I feel let down. My only hope for a stable OS now is elementary OS. They have promised to ship only when they have something that actually works.

These are the bugs I have reported so far:

I am using unity, not unity-2d. I don't know why launchpad thinks I'm using unity-2D.
How can I check which Unity I am using?

Easiest way to check right now is to hold down the Super key, and see if a list of keyboard shortcuts appear. If yes: Unity. If no: Unity-2d.

I see the shortcuts, so I am running Unity.
