Bug Description

After I lock the screen (ctrl+alt+L) I can still access a lot of information about the user:
- what programs he is running (for some reason dash can be revealed even in locked screen)
- what page is he browsing
- if he has any new mails (indicators are visible as well)
- if he is connected to network (indicators)
- etc.

See also the screenshot (phone quality as PrtSc doesn't work with screen locked).
I can reproduce this with no issues.

I can't reproduce it here with unity-5.6.0 and compiz 3035. Can you /systematically/ reproduce it?

In all cases, I would redirect the bug to lightdm first, and get maybe compiz if lightdm can be exonerated.

is that a multimonitor setup ??

Martin Mrazik (mrazik) wrote :

No it wasn't a multimonitor setup.

I had an impression I can reproduce reliably and all the time. I did a dist-upgrade this morning and I don't see it any more. So right now I'm not sure. Either this only shows up every now and then (and I did reboot after the dist-upgrade) or the last dist-upgrade fixed the problem. If I see this again I'll update the bug. For now I think it is IMHO OK to close.

Changed in lightdm:
status: New → Incomplete
affects: lightdm → unity-greeter

I can still reproduce. I'll try to figure out what are the steps but it may take couple of days.

This could be a compiz layering issue

For me only my background picture is visible.

Frankly, I don't know how to reliably reproduce this. I'm seeing this from time to time but I can not figure out exact steps how to reproduce.
Maybe it would help if you tell me what should I do when I see this (log files, debug info ...).

I have something similar when I wake my Ubuntu up from hibernation. Then it shows a quick flicker of my whole desktop.

Same problem: Launcher and panel visible on the lock screen.
The problem was present without suspending or hibernating the computer although the screen did turn off after a few minutes of inactivity before I noticed the problem (the music kept playing so I'm sure suspend/hibernate was not responsible). Maybe a screensaver problem?

I'm on Precise (with -proposed enabled), ATI FireGL 5200 with open source radeon drivers, single monitor setup. This bug appears for me.

My launcher is set to autohide and I can interact with it via mouse, making it show/hide. The launcher also updates to show notifications/progress bars of items, so it isn't just a cached image showing up. I can't left or right click on items, thankfully.

Also note that for me, if I hit super (for dash) it does not display. But dash does open in the background so that if I then log in it is already disabled.

If I hold down super, then the shortcut keys help page displays over the login box. The launcher also overlays the shortcut's onto the items.

I'm seeing the same behaviour of the Super key over/under the locked screen as Robert. (#15)
But if I hold Super and press one of the number keys to start a program from the launcher, it will not open, not even in the background.
I've observed this with radeon and i915 on two computers. Killing gnome-screensaver and restarting it using a terminal doesn't resolve the issue.

I believe this is most probably the same as bug 931460 so will mark it as such.

I still have triggered the bug with up to date Precise...
Bad news are that I have no clue how I triggered the bug, the good news are that I kinda have workaround how to get rid of it :)
In my case launcher and panel were visible after locking screen, how to get rid of it:
1. use Chromium or other FS capable app in full screen (occupying whole 101% of the screen)
2. lock the screen (in my case chromium stayed visible, but I could not interact with it)
3. move the mouse to unlock the screen (in my case I could not see the unlock password box, just the chromium window and a mouse cursor)
4. blindly enter the password and press enter (now you should be able to interact with chromium -> unlocked)
5. exit chromium fullscreen mode
6. every next lock is working as it should (even fullscreen chromium) up to the next time smth triggers the bug

I have this problem as well and Eduards post #18 workaround does work. I noticed this happening in some of the last batches of updates applied to Ubuntu. I am running 12.04.1 LTS running on gen 1 Sandy Bridge graphics.

Running Ubuntu 12.04.2 and this behaviour just started after latest kernel update. Per suggestion from Eduards, putting Chromium in full screen mode (F11), followed by locking the desktop and unlocking it, solved any future desktop locks regardless of what software you have active.

Very odd indeed, but it works!

I had this problem on Ubuntu 13.04 (raring) with 3 screens connected before I followed the steps in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/958353/comments/18

Now it's solved.

Thanks Eduards!

The same bug happend today after I installed clementine_1.1.1~precise_amd64.deb from http://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/downloads/list . If I'd lock the computer while there was music playing on Clementine, then Unity launcher would still be displayed on the screen. I don't know if it's Clementine itself or something else that runs while it's playing music. I didn't go further to check on system monitor what was running on the computer. But, after I uninstalled Clementine, the bug was gone. In my case it seems it was something related to this software, but I think it's not the only package to blame.

I can confirm that the issue affects my install of Ubuntu 13.10 x64 and that, as is the case with Tatiane, closing Clementine seems to resolve the issue.
