Launcher quick-list checkboxes cannot be modified (checked or unchecked)

On the newest unity (5.4.0+bzr2041ubuntu0+654), checkboxes in launcher icon quick-lists cannot be checked or unchecked by clicking. This has been tested through the checkbox-unity launcher/dynamic-quicklist test. The test application showed a quick-list with checkable items, one of which was checked. But clicking on any of them didn't change their visual state - they were still checked or unchecked as before the click.

How to reproduce:
The easiest way is to install checkbox-unity and run the /usr/share/checkbox-unity/scripts/launcher-ql script. The script will make an application appear on the launcher. Right click on the application icon and try clicking on any of the checkable items.

Expected outcome:
The checkbox-unity test said that the checkable items should become checked/unchecked on clicking.

Actual outcome:
Nothing happens - the quicklist gets closed, but the checkboxes remain in their previous states.
