Bug Description

Typing a key combination fast enough brings up the HUD.

The problem is especially evident in emacs, where M-x is a very fast key combination to type, and will invariably bring up the HUD. But even outsideof emacs, typing Alt-f or Alt-b on the shell will often bring up the HUD too.

As a workaround, here's a description on how to change the key that triggers the HUD (or to disable it completetly): http://askubuntu.com/questions/105874/how-can-i-disable-the-new-hud-in-ubuntu-precise

I disabled the "Key to show HUD" in ccsm and it still will trigger if I double tap ALT.

Annoying when users keyboard layout switch is set to Alt+Shift combination. HUD must not be invoked by Alt key alone, please come up with another shortcut. To avoid annoyances user must install compiz mgr and then learn how to disable this feature. For beginners this is too much of a hassle.

This is a serious bug which makes Precise extremely annoying to use. I request this bug is raised from Medium. It must be fixed before release. Can you turn off HUD for some applications?

Unity 5.6 got released on March 12th, and at least for me it fixed (and was also supposed to fix) the annoying unwanted popping up. I also cannot reproduce this anymore by eg. rapidly pressing alt+f / alt+b in terminal. Same for M-x in emacs.

I'm on unity 5.6.0-0ubuntu4 and this is still problematic. Very problematic... it's driving me mad :)

Previously, to workaround this, I could disable "Key to show the HUD" in CCSM to prevent the HUD from appearing. Now, however, disabling the HUD key also stops app switching (Alt-tab) and opening the window menu (Alt-space) from working. Reassigning the HUD key to Alt-h, for example, does not restore Alt-tab or Alt-space behaviour either.

I really want to use the HUD, but it's less useful to me than being able to use Alt in Emacs for example. If I could reassign its activation key without losing Alt-tab and co. I'd be very happy. Thanks!

@timo-jyrinki, thanks for updating this bug but please don't change the status of bugs in project ayatana-design (we use statuses in this project for part of our QA process)

@allenap; that's the plan, the use of the ALT key to trigger the HUD should be configurable.

@All; I'm reverting this bug due to allenap's report so this issue get's investigated.

I'm using ibus with koran input method.

Ibus's default toggle input method hotkeys has 'Hangul' - for 'Korean (101/104 key compatible' keyboard layout and also Alt+R.

Those two keys are actually point same key. If u change keyboard layout to 'English (US)', Hangul key acts as 'Alt_r'.

Problem is most Korean users using this key for toggle Hangul/English.
