Bug Description

1. open any window in full screen (for example press f11 in firefox)
2. press alt+tab (or whatever stays for switching windows)

result - tray area completely disappears, like there are no icons. the only solution to bring it back is to run unity --replace
this affects only classic tray area, indicators stay fine

i have noticed this problem about week ago, when have got an update to unity 5.0.0 in my ubuntu 11.10

i have attached a log - it is output from unity --replace
i have separated the log into two parts - one is before i reproduce bug, and second is after

Wow, wondered how this happens. I can reproduce it with latest 11.10 just as you describe. I pop up Remina full-screen, hit Alt+Tab, and now all my system tray icons are gone. Seems like there a blank space left where they were.

yes, the issue seems to be 100% reproduceable on current 11.10. but it looks like there are not that much people, who use fullscreen windows regulary =)

It's 100% reproduceable on released 12.04 now. I didn't know it was related to fullscreen and alt+tab before. I just found after sometime tray icons except indicators disappear.

I found simply activating dash using super key in fullscreen app causes tray area disappears too. I guess it's related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/860970.

used following workaround for alt+tab issue
- disabled unity's window switcher (anyway didn't like it's window grouping feature =) )
- enabled Static Application Switcher - this have brought me classic window switcher. when using it - tray does not disappear when alt+tabbing in a fullscreen window

but still, tray disappears when activating dash while fullscreen window is presented =(

Another workaround (i've posted it too for #982706) is killing compiz with -1:
  | user@host:~$ ps axu |grep compiz
  | user 3613 1.6 1.2 1405592 101044 ? Rl Jun12 125:27 compiz
  | user 3707 0.0 0.0 4392 608 ? Ss Jun12 0:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/bin/compiz-decorator
  | user@host:~$
  | user@host:~$ kill -1 3613

It keeps session and revert tray with all icons.

Is this still a problem on 14.04 or laters?
