Bug Description

When I have more than one instance of a program open, after minimizing all windows, clicking on the icon in the Unity launcher opens only one window.

For example, if I have two Chromium windows open and minimize both, one will become 'lost'. If I click on the icon in the Unity launcher, one window will maximize. All of the little white triangles under the icon which indicate multiple instances open remain, but I can only access one window.

Alt + ` only reveals one window.

Alt + tab just shows the single icon.

If I then minimize the single window which has maximized and then click on the icon again, the other window will maximize.

What I expect to happen: clicking on the icon in the Unity launcher should show ALL windows in a rectangular grid on the screen. Alt + ` should let me scroll through the open windows in the same grid.

I am using the latest compiz-config package with Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric.

This bug exist in 12.04 Beta 2 as well. I don't think it is a design issue. It is a bug.

Thank you for your bug report, do you still get the issue? Here both show in the alt-tab dialog, also clicking a second time on the launcher do expose both

The bug report had expired, hence I reopened it. Yes, the issue is indeed still present in 12.04: occasionally unity simply "forgets" about a particular window and it does neither show up in the alt-tab not the alt-' and are also not listed in the launcher. I found no way of getting the window back, not even by killing compiz. I'll provide more symptoms if it occurs again.

Tested on 15.10. When the application icon is clicked, Unity seems to restore the window which was last minimised in a stack-type behaviour. Clicking on the icon again shows a spread of all windows of that application. Presumably, this is by design?

Can someone confirm whether this bug still occurs in 12.04 or 14.04?
