Bug Description

For today the keyboard layout indicator displays menu if user clicks on this indicator by left mouse button, right mouse button and middle mouse button. I proposing to use middle mouse button click to switch keyboard layouts. KDE's keyboard layout widget already switches keyboard layouts and AFAIK keyboard layout indicator in Gnome also have this feature. So I ask to implement this feature in Unity.

I don't think this will work well in any way. As part of the indicators specification, left-click should always open a menu, not do an action straight away. If we were to implement this, panning through menus will unintentionally change the keyboard layout.

We don't want this to happen. If you have a good reason for this to be changed, then please discuss that on the Ayatana list. If a consensus is reached there, then you can get this bug re-opened

Ok, I got this point and I agree with it.

Okay, if I ask to implement switch keyboard layouts in sequential order when user click to layout indicator with middle button, this feature request will be accepted? Looking at similar bugreport https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/609860 I doesn't see anything that may block corrected version of this feature request.

Hmm, middle mouse click is appropriate I'd say for this.

Not related to indicator-applet because Unity provides the keyboard indicator (as far as I know)

That's a feature request for the indicator itself which is code provided from gnome-settings-daemon
