Bug Description

The launcher settings, specifically "Hide launcher", in CCSM don't seem to be honored by the Unity plugin. I set the option to "Never", but the launcher still dodge all windows no matter what I try to do about it.

See this question for more details on troubleshooting I've tried: http://askubuntu.com/questions/64858/how-do-i-always-show-the-launcher-i-e-disable-the-auto-hide-functionality

There seems to be a couple of earlier bugs with this functionality, the latest I could find had a fix reported in version 4.10 - I'm running version 4.22.0-0ubuntu3 of the unity package and I still have this problem.

After further troubleshooting, I begin to think that the new unity desktop doesn't honor *any* of the CompizConfig settings - it's not just the autohide of the launcher that's causing a fuss, but also lots of things with window management (put, as well as any application switcher except the static one, being a couple of examples I've tried).

Any news on this?

For the case that this is hardware related, here's the output of [sudo lshw] on my machine.

I am seeing the same behavior. I am using an nVidia graphics card with the proprietary driver FWIW.

Just a point, my unity is honouring the never hide setting, as I use
synergy, I've made my right hand monitor (on my desktop) never hide the
launcher.

$ apt-cache policy unity
unity:
  Installed: 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1
  Candidate: 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1
  Version table:
 *** 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1 0

Packages

     4.22.0-0ubuntu3 0

So... there is definitely something interesting with your system.

Tim, if there is something interesting going on in my/our systems, how do we troubleshoot and/or fix it?

am embarrassed to say the problem for me was that I was running unity 2d. I assumed it would run 3d because I always ran compiz in the past. Also, it was difficult to find out which I was running as they look very similar. It turns out my nVidia card was blacklisted because of Unity freezing issues with the latest nvidia driver.

Tomas, are you sure you run unity-3d and not 2d?

This affects me and I'm sure that I'm using unity-3d. See bug #887203 for more information.

I have another account with unity-2d and it works as expected.
