4.10.2 FTBFS on ARM because of casting char * to data pointers with different alignments

For some reason I fail to register branches on LP and make a pull request, so after 5 minutes I gave up and attach a diff :)

Making a release blocker as this breaks armel images (stops unity-2d from building).
