Bug Description

For many years I've customized GNOME, and now Unity, to set shortcuts
that allow rapid switching between workspaces. I assign
Ctrl-Alt-<num>, where <num> refers to the workspace number, so that I
can quickly switch from any workspace to another. It would be nice if
this was builtin.

It might be a good idea, but you couldn't reuse the Ctrl+Alt+Num combination because it's already in use for positioning windows on the screen.

Oh interesting. Out of curiousity, what does the Ctrl-Alt-<num>
shortcut do with regards to window positioning?

Omer Akram (om26er) wrote :

setting as incomplete as we wait for design, atm ctrl+alt+numbers change the position of the active window in a way like your numpad is your screen for example if you press ctrl+alt+7 it will resize the window to covertop left area of the screen

@ Jamu Kakar; the current shortcuts are:

Change to a new workspace: Ctrl-Alt ← / → / ↑ / ↓
Place window to a new workspace: Ctrl-Alt-Shift ← / → / ↑ / ↓

As Omer Akram said, the Ctrl-Alt number shortcuts are currently bound to window movement, so the most logical keys for the functionality you are requesting are already taken.

Thanks for the information John and Omer. I guess I didn't notice the
existing shortcuts as my system is an upgrade from maverick. Should
we mark this as 'Won't Fix', since doing so would cause a regression?
I can continue to manually map these keys for the behaviour I want.

Closing these tasks with the status I can give :-)
