Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Customized versions of Ubuntu need to be able to start with a customized set of default icons on the unity home dash. It should be possible to do this without modifying the unity source pkg.

I think, users also should be allowed to modify those icons.

@ Bilal: My description was not clear enough. I did not mean that icons specifically need to be customizable. Rather I meant that the contents of the home dash needs to be customizable. That is, we need to support customized versions of ubuntu that ship with a customized home dash that allows the user to launch different applications than the default, and this needs to be doable without modifying unity code itself.

This is tagged oem-priority. Does this mean OEMs would need it? Marking needs-design anyway

Yes, OEMs need this.

This is a high priority for the Canonical OEM group so that we can create customized Ubuntu versions for OEMs and be able to meet their requirements for using unity and having customized home dash launchers/icons.

Actually, I'd like to remove these icons altogether, and have a thin
search box only by default. Can we test that, please?

sorry to ask but how would this work for fullscreen dash?

would this be some kind of "override" for the home-lens?
