Bug Description

It takes too many mouse clicks already to open an app. Having a list of categories on the side (like gnome3 does) instead of a menu reduces those clicks by one.

This isn't really a bug, more of a feature request.

Possible solution 1:
- Click "Categories button" open a VERTICAL list NEXT to the Icons Apps (clic again for hide the list):

[Search box...] [Categories button]
[Icons Apps] [Vertical Categories]

Possible solution 2:
- Click "Categories button" open a HORIZONTAL list BELLOW the search box (clic again for hide the list):

[Search box...] [Categories button]
Accesories | Games | Graphics | Internet | Multimedia | System
[Icons Apps]

Possible solution 3:
- Click "Categories button" open a HORIZONTAL list ON the search box (clic again for hide the list):

[Accesories | Games | Graphics | Internet | Multimedia | System] [Categories button]
[Icons Apps]

The mouse button you suggest isn't that different from the menu that exists now, a checkbox (maybe in the dash itself) that makes the categories visible permanently would be much better.

Right click on Apps lens in the launcher?

I was using that, but the category list the way gnome 3 has it is a better solution when you have to search for an app (don't remember what category it's under). Also the app lens moves around depending on how many windows you have open.

Can this be set to Fix Released? A fix for this has been released, see a screenshot of the current dash in Oneiric at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/183140/unity.png, taken from OMGUbuntu, http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/08/ubuntu-11-10-development-update-9/, and this does have category buttons.
