Bug Description

My nautilus bookmarks appear in Favorites. They are FTP which rather than bring up Nautilus they open in Firefox so I can't replace or add files to the FTP server. Also my Preferred Applications - points to Chrome and not Firefox even though Firefox has been removed as an Open With Association for HTML.

Could you confirm that running this command:

xdg-open ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/

opens up Firefox?

Bilal,

My original install was an upgrade which I replaced with a clean install.
The situation I reported still brings up a browser but now it is
my preferred browser Chrome. xdg-open with an ftp now opens in Chrome. My
expectation is that since the Favorite folders came from Nautilus bookmarks
that the folders which are FTPs would open in Nautilus for full FTP read
write operation and not the FTP read only function provided by browsers.

Have a nice day -- *George*

Not only unity but also the classic-ubuntu interface is affected in Natty Narwhal.

xdg-open ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/ opens a Firefox for me, which is the default browser.

If I recall correctly, this happened to me when upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, but was easily fixed with gconf-editor by setting desktop\gnome\url-handlers\ftp. Once again the upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 broke FTP bookmarks, but this time editing the configuration doesn't help; that gconf value is already set to nautilus but firefox still steals FTP bookmarks when they're opened from the Places menu. I'm using classic Gnome instead of Unity.

got also this pblm..

desktop\gnome\url-handlers\ftp doesn't exist anymore, so it's impossible to fix it manually/

the only solution for the moment is to hit ctrl+L, and fill the location of the ftp to have it in nautilus

11.04 with classic ubuntu

OK, so apparently desktop\gnome\url-handlers\ftp in my gconf is just a leftover from Maverick and no longer works (in reply to #5).

Since this affects not only Unity but Gnome too, shouldn't this bug be filed against a package package other than unity in order to get proper attention?

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with gconf.

To solve this problem open the following file with your favorite text-editor with root-rights:

/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

Somewhere close to the end you'll find a line like this:

x-scheme-handler/ftp=firefox.desktop;

change it to:

x-scheme-handler/ftp=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

Save the file...

FTP-Favorites open with Nautilus again (tested against Gnome 2.32.1 // Linux Mint 11 Katya based on Ubuntu 11.04)

Yep, changing these settings solved the problem.

Thank you, Martin! The problem solved for me :)
And seems that changing these setting solved another problem with copy files to ftp-server. This bug has described here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/774096

Thanks more!!!!
