Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

hi,

there are some tray icons (appindicator or however this is called) that are not clickable. i can click on every icon from the right that is left to the network manager indicator. i cannot click on the network manager icon and on all icons left from this icon.
if i click on them, nothing happens.

if i click on a clickable icon, e.g. the volume indicator, the menu opens correctly. When a menu is open, i can switch to all other (formerly not clickable) indicators using the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard.

i the "normal" tray icons like skype or radio tray work as expected.

for visualization, see these screenshots:

ok, new verdict:

if i remove all non-appindicator applications from the autostart, the error does not occur.
new instructions for reproduction:

add a programm to the autorun list, that uses the old systray icons, e.g. radiotray. restart. after the next restart, you cannot click on the most left appindicator.

I am not totally sure but unity 3.8.10 fixed a kind of similar issue, Could you please update and check if that fixed your issue as well. see bug 761409

I installed unity 3.8.10 but no improvements for this bug.

a workaround for using radiotray is to install radiotray 0.6.2 or higher, which adds appindicator support.

but this bug does not only appear in combination with radiotray but also with all other non-appindicator applications that are loaded by autorun - for example if you place skype as a startup application.

correction: installation of radiotray 0.6.3 did NOT bring any improvements. they wrote about appindicator support in the changelog, but i cannot find any indicator.

Is this bug the same as bug 761409?
Anyway, unity 3.8.10-0ubuntu2 haven't fixed this problem for me.

I'm having this same issue when adding to the auto-start icons that have old tray icons.
However, if i do unity --reset, it gets fixed.

Also, i setted the property to whitelist every tray icon for the panel as i need them.
