Bug Description

To reproduce:

1. Just after logging in, click the BFB and type the name of an app (e.g, terminal).
2. No results are shown

What should happen? search results should be shown.

If you can manage to get the lens selector to show at the right of the search window, then the same search will produce results as it should. E.g., I think you can do this by selecting "find apps" from the launcher. Note that on the first invocation, there is no lens selector on the right hand side (not sure if that is intentional or not).

I believe this is new behaviour introduced in the last couple days - I noticed it after an update on 15 April and think (but am not sure) that it worked as expected before this.

Thanks Jane, what unity version do you have installed and did you restart since you upgraded today? it should have been fixed with

unity (3.8.8-0ubuntu2) natty; urgency=low

  * Cherry pick a lazy activation case not starting the places on demand
    (LP: #761225)

Changed in unity:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Hi Seb. Looks like I have 3.8.8-0ubuntu1 (unity). I did restart after updating, but will looks like I am out of date already. You guys are fast! Will update again to see if it's gone.

We just pushed that fix this morning, but time for acking/building/publishing… :)
(a workaround if you can't update right now is to hover the application and file place icons in the launcher which activates the places for being ready to search in)
