Bug Description
My machine is having trouble with the current kernel and often halts. On restarting the machine, the desktop fails to show. If I turn the machine off and on again after that Unity returns.
The machine goes through the following steps:
* Grub
* Ubuntu boot time splash screen
* Mouse pointer appears and works
* Startup sound plays
* Machine stays on the splash screen
On the second boot the pointer changes from a pointer to the spinning wait pointer, then the desktop shows.
I have auto login turned on. This is with 3.8.6-0.
