Bug Description
0) Make sure unity launcher is set to either autohide or dodge and that you have no windows maximised in at least two adjacent workspaces
1) Maximize the window of any application (if you are affected by bug #731786, you might need to force the launcher to hide by unmaximising, making the launcher dodge the unmaximised window and and maximising again)
2) Switch to an adjacent workspace containing no maximised windows using the proper keyboard shortcut (for example, CTRL-ALT-RIGHT)
3) Go back to the original workspace using the proper keyboard shortcut (for example, CTRL-ALT-LEFT)
After step 2 the launcher usually unhides as expected, in which case what I reliably observe after step 3 is that the launcher stays on top of the maximised window and doesn't autohide.
In very rare cases, the launcher fails to unhide after step 2, in which case it stays hidden after step 3.
After either behavious has occurred, the effects of further workspace switching via keyboard shortcuts become a bit less deterministic, i.e. in rare cases hiding works as expected.
I'm unable to reproduce this no matter how many times, or how fast I change workspaces. I'm hoping that this has been fixed in trunk. Could you please make sure that you're fully updated, and see if the issue persists?
