Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

With the latest update to unity the launcher will only "hide' when a window is occupying it's space. While maybe this is the result of bug fix here -# 685861, it certainly seems a step back when not using a fs window or placing a window on far left side.

there should be an option to enable and disable intellihide IMO.

 status confirmed
 importance low

I *think* we might have a "really hide" option, but I think we should
judge this closer to release, once the UI on the launcher behaviour is
in place.

Just a 2 cent follow up -
In the last 6 weeks have keep parallel installs on 2 machines (13", 23"), one install w/ intellihide , on the other have restored true-hide in each unity upgrade in a non intrusive small source edit.

While I can see where the more desired option may well be intelli-hide, the true-hide is also quite nice and would be appreciated, I believe by many users.
While implementing an add. option is likely non-trivial, if time and interest present themselves it would be a welcome addition.
(It's become a must here, particularly on the large screen setup, first thing I ck. on the new sources is to see if enabling remains a 'simple' edit
Attached is screen I took a moment ago to show that while I'm not big on a 'clean' desktop, the absence of the launcher on a large screen makes for a clean look I've come to like (alot

Regarding "fix committed"
Not sure if this commit was included in the latest unity update 3.4.2-0ubuntu1, didn't see any mention in changelog. It does though appear so - (launcher_hide_mode 1

If so, at least here, while it works well there is a small glitch. First occurred which only 1 window open on desktop - not in or near launcher area. When moving focus to the Desktop and then returning to the open window the launcher would pop out for a second, then disappear.

That has not occurred since a reboot but what also does this is to grab a file or folder on the Desktop with the mouse and move it.
When doing so the launcher appears, in this case it stays exposed till the file or folder is released, then it disappears.

While this install is only a few weeks old maybe a re-install is in order to ck. (and a new bug if still?
