Bug Description

The launcher icon's tooltip doesn't immediately follow a system font update (via gnome-appearance-properties > Fonts > Application Font). After a Compiz restart, everything looks fine.

In addition this leads to visual glitches (see attached screenshot using 14pt font 'Sans'); I guess that's because part of tooltip code already uses the updated font size.

I confirm the second issue (visual glitches when setting larger font sizes), but with not "following system font", you mean, it's always the ubuntu font which is chosen? Only the size setting is picked up?

It's not the font I set for "Application Font" in gnome-appearance-properties (which works for the quicklist). The source code (Tooltip.h) suggests it always uses "Ubuntu 13" (13px I guess, as it's definitely not 13pt).

Hernando: the rendered size in pixels is a function of the point size and screen DPI; 13 pt can be different on different computers and different monitors. (If the same way that 13 pt text is still 13 pt text even if you zoom it in 400% and it takes up half the screen).

(a compiz restart fix it as Hernando told me), so yeah, it's a bug.

@Paul Sladen: Good point, but 13pt should be the same on the same computer and the same monitor. It just isn't. ;-)

I hit this again when testing/experimenting with the suggested fix for bug #697791. If I set the size to 32pt in appearance, all of the other applications update dynamically, but Unity requires killing and a restart.
