First of all, let me correct my previous post: with 'sticking to the right' I naturally meant 'sticking to the left'. Fernando: you are right, most Ubuntu users are power users. However, what I think Canonical is trying to do is make Ubuntu more appealing to non-technical users. I really think for this purpose Unity is way better than the old Gnome2 desktop or the new Gnome shell. It's more appealing to the eye, if offers a more streamlined experience and it's easy to get started with.
