Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Using Maverick.

empathy is launched from the messaging menu, and an empathy icon appears in the launcher panel.

I right-click on the icon, and select the "quit" option. The contact list and any open chat windows go away, but empathy does not actually quit. I am still logged in, and the "me" indicator shows that I am still available.

In order to actually quit empathy, I have to re-open the contact list and hit control-q or select File -> Quit.

Thanks for reporting this bug and help to make ubuntu better.

Do you get the same issue in the GNOME session with empathy? If it's the case, please reassign the bug to empathy.

In the GNOME session, when the contact list is displayed, right-clicking on the icon in the bottom toolbar only gives you a "close" option. If you select it, the contact list window goes away, but empathy remains running. This behavior is consistent with what I expect "close" behavior to be.

In the Unity session, when the contact list is displayed, right-clicking the icon in the app launcher shows a "quit" option. As per the initial bug report, "quit" means the entire application should quit. However, selecting "quit" merely closes the contact list window, and again, empathy remains running.

I will attach 2 screen shots.

I think the mechanism by which Unity is telling Empathy to close might
be simply by telling all the windows to close. Most apps quit at that
point, but Empathy doesn't.

This suggests we should provide a way for the app to override even the
standard entries in the quicklist, like quit, or at least add hooks so
that additional app-specific actions can be taken when they are selected.

Please add this to the ayatana design list for Natty (tag and affects
appropriately).
