Bug Description
This issue affects any menu item on the desktop as well. For example, if you have the sound menu open and leave the computer for the amount of time which should lock/ turn on screensaver this won't happen until you come back and close the menu item. Computer will then go into screensaver or lock.

This really sounds like a gnome-screensaver or gtk bug. I don't think this has much to do with Unity. I'm going to retarget this at gnome-screensaver.
