Bug Description

I had 2 Evolution icons on my dock:

Evolution calendar and evolution mail.

upon opening evolution mail, it would open it under a new launcher: "mail and calendar evolution"

upon opening evolution calendar instead, SOMETIMES it would open it under the same launcher, while other times it would open it under "mail and calendar evolution"

by pinning and opening directly "mail and calendar evolution" it is always opened in place as expected...

as a workaround i removed from the dock the problematic launchers and kept only the working one, but this is really ugly for the unity experience imho: the non working launchers clutter the dock and confuse the new users

(i also have a problem with duplicate launchers inside the place-applications ...there were 2 copies of "cheese" showing there, unfortunately i cannot verify if this is still happening with the latest updates due to Bug #629692 )

Jason, please take a look at this. I might be the same issue as the synaptic gnome/kde issues.

I think this will be fixed in bamf once the bamf part of bug #622146 will be done.

Jason Smith (jassmith) wrote :

Bamf is now ready to handle these cases, however we defer to unity to actually register its favorites. This will likely happen on the next release as there was no time for it this week.

Hi, thanks for filing this bug, could you check with the latest version of unity that this is still happening?
Thanks

I cannot guarantee that the bug doesn't happen anymore... i'm not sure how to reproduce it: i think it should happen with brand new unity sessions (in my sessions i changed the launchers and so that wouldn't be meaningful), and to emulate this use case i'm using a guest session...

however it seems that it's been fixed indeed... now the behaviour is this:
-when the normal evolution is launched, it uses an evolution express launcher (without creating a new one if it's already existing)
-when the launcher is clicked, evolution express is always launched in the same icon
-when a calendar session of evolution, it uses an evolution express launcher (without creating a new one if it's already existing)

so, now it seems it isn't possible anymore to have a separate calendar launcher (maybe not what everyone wants, but i guess globally creates less confusion)... nor a normal evolution launcher (only the express session of evolution gets called by the launcher, but being this the netbook interface i guess it's the expected behaviour)

on the other hand: i noticed a new little glitch when launching evolution... i reported it in a separate bug: #643760
