Bug Description

Changing the system theme in gnome (from ambiance to radiance for example) does not change the colour patterns or status icons in the Unity top menubar. This will need to be improved for consistency throughout the netbook edition.

Obviously I appreciate this is still an alpha release, but I was not sure whether this was broken or not yet implemented.

I believe this is by design for the maverick release, however definitley something to be considered for Natty

Ok to hard-code for Maverick, we'll consider themability for Natty though starting position is it's low-priority compared to other goals.

I'm currently working on this.
I mean, I'm hacking unity in order to make the panel consistent with the new Ambiance theme.

The implementation is dependent on a design guideline. Marking as blocked (incomplete) for now.

I hit this whilst trying to investigate bug #649882. If I understand Mark (comment #3) this is up for fixing for natty, but that per dbarth (comment #6) might be blocked on a design criteria from somebody in the Ayatana/design teams.

At the moment switching between Luminance and Radiance in Appearance->Theme switches all of the menus and icons over, but not currently the background/foreground color of the bar itself.

Looking at it, it appears that it's mainly a case of using the window-manager title-bar background/foreground selection for drawing the unity-top-panel/indicator rather than a hardcoded value. I believe that the intent to provide a seamless between maximised windows using the global menu infrastructure and unmaximised windows sill being drawn with their separate title bars, and because of the colour choices this "just works" for the default of Luminance.

David: can you outline what further is needed to get this unblocked?

bug 663524 is for the panel and bug 711982 is for the launcher. marking this duplicate of one of those.
