When running a 3d game via openGL, an indicator updating updating it's icons seems to cause a glytch, whereby the openGL window stutters for ~300ms. This is particularly noticeable with "clementine" music player, which updates the icon to show track progress every 10 seconds. It sounds trivial, but it completely destroys gameplay, and I imagine other applications playing video or animations may be similarly affected.
This effect does not happen when indicator-multiload updates it's mini graphs in the top bar, which I imagine are handled slightly differently, not being icons. |
