Switching between laptop screen and external monitor looses window workspace placements

I switch quite regularly between a 27" external monitor and the internal screen on my laptop (14"); after switching either way, all windows end up in the same workspace - it would be nice if this could be handled a bit better with workspace placement being remembered during switching.

This is more of an annoyance rather than anything else.

Still happening in Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr). Looks not too good for an LTS. Please fix it.
