Bug Description

This is a feature request:

When I have an application that has multiple windows open (let's say LibreOffice with multiple documents or Thunderbird with the main window and two mail writing windows, or multiple terminals) it takes in my opinion way too long to select one of the windows.

AFAIK there are two possibilities to select a window of an application:
1) Use Alt+TAB: This will show all applications that have windows open on the current workspace. I can then select the application of interest (for instance LibreOffice). Then when waiting for some time, the windows of that application appear and I can select one. Overall, it takes quite some time, because I also have to look at the (small) previews of the windows and can only then decide which one is the appropriate one.

2) Use the mouse and click on the application icon in the launcher. After that I will again get a (bigger) preview of the windows. Problem here is that I might have to move with the mouse over the whole screen to get to the right window. In MS Windows one has to make just a little move with the mouse to be able to click on the right window, as the preview is placed very close to the application icon.

My proposal to accelerate things is to support the Mouse wheel within the launcher. Two ideas:
I1) When the mouse is over the application icon of that application that has multiple windows open and I use the mouse wheel, I will scroll through the open windows. The windows will appear without preview but directly in their original size.
I2) When using the mouse wheel in the launcher without being over an application that is open, I can scroll through all open windows of this workspace.

I1) and I2) would make things so much easier and faster at the same time! I would love to see such a feature. Of course the ideas are based on the observation that the mouse wheel is without function in the launcher at the moment.

I second that proposal. However this will not work nicely with the current behaviour where mouse wheel scrolling is tied to scrolling the launcher if it has too many entries and therefore folds them.

You are right. The mouse wheel has a purpose already. I didn't consider that because the launcher isn't folded for me. But maybe there are other ideas out there on how to improve this situation.

I would just recommend a mode where the quicklist is dynamically extended with the currently open windows, so you can select them by right clicking and then left clicking. The active window could be marked with a "*" or something alike.
If I remember correctly there is a script floating around somewhere on the web that does precisely this. If this was polished and properly tested there may be the possibility of including it in unity as an option or as a separate package in the repos.
