Bug Description

Generally speaking, online content is only indexed when an associated account has been added to Ubuntu under (All Settings > Online Accounts). Why is it that Amazon is treated differently?

Ubuntu should provide the ability to add an Amazon account, as well as other onine purchasing accounts, and only display products in the search results if these accounts are present and activated.

Having online accounts for the shopping lens would align much better with the existing lens functionality:
- It would allow users to opt-in.
- It would probably provide better search results based on previous purchases.
- It scales better with other online shopping sites.

It's an interesting approach, but I'm not convinced. It's linked to an account where it's searching your own content, such as your documents in Google Docs. There are many online sources (Amazon, iPlayer, music catalogues, etc.) that are publicly searchable. The value of this will come when you can search dozens or hundreds of sources at the same time - but that would be very awkward if you had to add an account for each one of those sources.

Agreed, however if I intend to buy, I require an account. Why provide search results for people who do not intend to buy? What of the people who subscribe to non amazon services?

Like I said, its more flexible, its opt in, and there is little bias.

As part of the big bug review for 16.04 LTS I have tested this on 15.10 and the bug is still there. I think this is a feature request rather than a bug.
