Bug Description

Release Ubuntu 12.10 (Radeon)

"Home|Ubuntu" not shown in dash and chromium icon on launcher shows "waiting to install" when mouse is hovered over it even though the installation is complete. See attached screenshot.

Follow the below steps:
 * Open Chromium and go to a website, say ubuntu.com
 * Go to the menu "File" -> "Create Application Shortcuts..."
 * Select the checkbox "Applications Menu" (you can deselect the "Desktop" one)
 * A new window is opened, and the launcher will continue matching it like a
   chromium application.
 * Close the chromium window.
 * Open the dash and search for "chrom"
 * An application called "Home | Ubuntu" should be shown
 * Launch it
 * Assert: The launcher will show an icon for the "Home | Ubuntu" application

Why would Home|Ubuntu be shown in the dash? You're referring to the Ubuntu web home page, right?

As for the Waiting to install part, it's covered as part of bug #1011681

@bilal, the test case they are using suggests adding ubuntu.com as an application shortcut. Doing so creates a launcher which has a name which is the <title> from the website in question. the <title> for ubuntu.com _is_ "Home | Ubuntu" which is why in the test case we ask for people to look for it.

Week 30 - Release ubuntu 12.10 Quantal (Intel) with ppa:SIL2100 update.

Same issue observed. Following the below steps, typing "chrom" in dash does not show an icon for "home|ubuntu", only 1 icon is shown i.e. Chromium web browser. Assertion 1 - fails.

* Open the dash and search for "chrom"
 * An application called "Home | Ubuntu" should be shown
 * Launch it
 * Assert 1: The launcher will show an icon for the "Home | Ubuntu" application
 * Open a standard chromium window
 * Assert 2: The new chromium window will be associated to the standard chromium
   application icon.
 * Assert 3: Clicking the "Home | Ubuntu" will activate its window, while clicking
   in the chromium icon will activate a chromium window.

Same issue observed on machine with Radeon card. Typing "chrom" in dash does not show an icon for "home|ubuntu", only 1 icon is shown i.e. Chromium web browser.

And Chromium web browser icon on launcher still showing as "Waiting to install" even after the installation is complete and Chromium browser is working as normal.

Same issue observed.
Issues:
- No "Home|Ubuntu" icon in dash.
- And chromium icon on launcher still showing as "Waiting to Install".
- After adding application shortcut, the Chromium window automatically closes.

Follow the below steps:
 * Open Chromium and go to a website, say ubuntu.com
 * Go to the menu "File" -> "Create Application Shortcuts..."
 * Select the checkbox "Applications Menu" (you can deselect the "Desktop" one)

Week 31 - Ubuntu 12.04 precise with ppa:sil2100.
Same issue was observered.
This is what I am seeing.

Having installed Chromium (package chromium-browser)
Action:
1. Go to Ubuntu.com and File -> Create Application Shortcuts
2. Select only 'Applications menu' and click 'Create'
Result:
Launcher application icon matches chromium. But searching in Dash for 'chr' does not find an application 'Home|Ubuntu'

However after a restart on the machine....
Searching in Dash now finds applications Home|Ubuntu
But the application icon in Dash and now if adding an Application shortcut from Chromium the icon does not match Chromium but is the default website icon.

so test case works after a restart but the launcher icon is not matching chromium.

I confirm the issue here. Chromium web app is not added to the dash even the option 'application menu' is ticked while creating the app. Now the question is: is that a bug in chromium or unity? my best guess is chromium.
