Bug Description

The chameleonic effect for the launcher button backgrounds is sometimes affected by the current icon theme and/or the wallpaper set, causing it to take on the wrong color and not match the rest of the launcher. It's not always noticeable, but certain combinations make it more apparent (especially with smaller launcher widths, such as < 40px).

Someone else pointed this bug out to me originally, and I can reproduce it in unity 5.12-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

I made an unlisted YouTube video showing the issue here (look especially around the 1:25 mark when it is most visible, with a reddish-colored background against a green wallpaper): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbWx3vWi1X0

Note that the Dash Home button (aka BFB) remains unaffected.

Also, as evidence that the picture present on the launcher icon affects the chameleonic effect as well, observe these comparison screenshots using the FS Icons Ubuntu icon theme (development version r43) between when the Trash is empty and when it is not (note the reddish hue in the second screenshot, when it is supposed to be purple). Note that between them only the icon changed; no other settings were altered.

Additionally, it was suggested to me that this might be a nux bug, but I filed it against Unity anyway just to be on the safe side.

I can confirm this bug and I also have to add that I can't reproduce it with non-Intel videos. Can anyone help, cimi, maybe?

I'm unable to reproduce this on 15.10, so it seems like it's been fixed in later versions of Unity.

Can someone confirm whether this still happens in 12.04?
