Bug Description

Steps:
* add a contact with an email
* open the contact

Expected:
* I can tap on the email address to open an email app composing an email to that contact (via a mailto: URL probably)

Current:
* email is not displayed at all

-----------UX comment-----------

The best solution for now would be to invoke the content hub and give user the option to select an app to send an email.

What would be the default email app for use?
Or lets say, a user has several installed. We will have to trigger the content hub in and choose an app. Either ways, this needs a little more design thinking. Adding Ubuntu-ux in the loop.

From dekko's point of view for this i presume it's just a case of getting registered with the URL Dispatcher and setting dekko as a target for mailto: urls

I have a couple of questions for the UX team if i can get your thoughts,

1) Should this load up a lightweight composer view (like thunderbird for instance) or do a full blown launch of dekko with the composer visible?
2) Should after submission the app stay on screen or should it be closed in order to return to the state before clicking the mailto link

I actually filed a bug with url-dispatcher for allowing multiple apps to handle a url (bug #1378350), but this could be merged if you think it worth it.

@Dan, I think the "lightweight composer" is more in line with the content hub, if we said tapping an email in contacts actually starts a content hub "share" session, just that nothing's really shared (except for the recipient address, if we could say that's content).

I actually did think today that url-dispatcher and content hub kind of do the same thing, so maybe they shouldn't be two separate things.

@Dan It is difficult to tell which approach we will take for this because we didn't start any design work on it.
Off the top of my head:

"I have a couple of questions for the UX team if i can get your thoughts,

1) Should this load up a lightweight composer view (like thunderbird for instance) or do a full blown launch of dekko with the composer visible?" [OK] - either can work, but needs investigation

"2) Should after submission the app stay on screen or should it be closed in order to return to the state before clicking the mailto link" [OK] - I'd say user returns back to where the journey started but again, can't commit to that

Also, is this a RTM / ota thing?

@Olga Ok well i will hold off implementing anything until a decision has been made on this.

In my opinion I'd say either this or bug 1378343 should be an RTM thing so that at least contacts can be used from/in dekko in one way or another.

Just an update on the dekko side of things we now support the mailto url scheme so it would be fairly trivial to add support for this in the address-book-app.

I'm happy to submit a patch to the address-book-app for this, if it's a solution you are willing to accept? Or is through content-hub the preferred solution?

I would say yes for the content hub. The reason is that users might have several mail applications installed and we can not predict that Dekko will be always the preferred one.
Anyone else any comments on this?

I agree that more than one mail application maybe installed.

In my mind there needs to be an intermediary step in the url-dispatcher, that opens an application picker that allows to either select an app for "this time only" or "set as default" for opening this type of URL. The application picker could be done through content hub, but personally I feel the url-dispatcher should be the process that kicks this off.

Also the webbrowser app would need something like this as clicking mailto links in a webpage will get sent out through url-dispatcher. So an application picker would also be needed should more than one application be registered to handle it.

In some use cases it kind of seems like url-dispatcher and content-hub do the same thing

Marking as Fix Committed because the Dekko app is opened as default email app. Although I think we will have to redo some things once users start installing other email applications. Tested on krillin 15.10 (r293)
