-> Without the fix the username is obscured by PAM messages.

@Robert: I think the fix commited status for precise was wrong, the fix is commited in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-greeter-team/unity-greeter/0.2/revision/402 but still needs to be SRUed right?

Accepted unity-greeter into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/0.2.9-0ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
