I've never seen this myself, but there can be two reasons:

 1) zeitgeist-daemon is not running - in this case you should be able
to see some messages about this on stdout if you run the apps place
daemon manually

 2) It's a bug in Unity's rendering layer - in this case you need
someone from the shell team to track it down

Thanks for the tip Mikkel.

It's definitely not 2) because it affected equally Unity and Unity 2D. I will look out for 1).

@Florian: I think I may have figured it out now - finally :-)

For the app logging we rely on GDesktopAppInfo emitting a signal on the bus which is then picked up by Zeitgeist and logged. I guess it's fair to assume that Qt doesn't emit the same DBus signals as GIO when starting apps? ;-)

This would mean that you only get data in Most Frequently Used when *not* using unity-2d as far as I can tell.

There are two ways to fix this - either you manually emit the same DBus signal as g_desktop_app_info_launch() does - or you provide some alternate hooks which you then wire up in lp:zeitgeist-datahub.

Mikkel, it sounds like a good idea but Unity 2D uses GDesktopAppInfo to launch applications.

After a talk with Florian we agreed to put this bug on the backburner for a while. It is very hard (impossible?) to reproduce and a Natty stack. So unless we see something in this area over the coming time we'll close this bug.
