Bug Description
WORKAROUND: to temporarily fix the problem without loggin out/resarting and losing all program state, one can run "xkill" and click the unity launcher. it will respawn and the "lost" applications will reappear...
Just installed vlc on a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 daily built...
I chose "unlock from launcher" while an mp3 file was playing, and the Vlc icon disappeared from the Unity Launcher. No empty icon whatsoever... Actually that might as well be a problem with Unity Launcher to begin with, I don't know.
Note that the problem was fixed after restarting...

That's an issue that comes often in user testing, I noticed it a few times there, when that happens bamf-daemon is still running and the d-feet infos are correct so it seems rather a "client" side issue
