Bug Description

Unity has hard coded the Alt-Backtick [`] keyboard shortcut, and it grabs it before it is passed to firefox browser. I'm using a plugin that require Alt-Backtick and it is very disruptive to have to find a workaround when Alt-Backtick is not availabel to firefox.

Either, disabke or change the shortcut to some other combo, or create a way for user to assign these shortcuts.

Thanks

In Unity 2D, this setting is defined in gconf in /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_group
It appears the option in the gnome control center is not reporting this correctly.

Thanks for point out the gconf setting. I was able to disable it by setting the value to 'disable'.

affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

This is only an issue in Unity-2d since you can change the key in CCSM for unity(3d)

Misbehaviour still present in quantal

I'm using gnome-fallback session. Seems that keybooard settings are under gsettings now. The magic to get this annoyance fixed is now:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-group "['disabled']"

(dconf-editor to the same spot works as well)

(the default setting for this is "['<Alt>Above_Tab']". A very unusual keysym indeed. I now understand which it wasn't easy grepping for `, backtick, grave, backquote etc...)

E.

Changing the value in CCSM isn't saved across sessions, even though CCSM shows it as being saved.

Nevermind, I see that this bug is for Unity2D
