Bug Description
Running up to date Precise with unity-2d.
When the HUD is used to invoke a dialog such as Preferences in Nautilus the focus is not given to the dialog but (apparently) remains with the app window. This is undesirable as it is necessary to manually switch focus before, for example, tabbing around the dialog.
The problem is not seen with 3D Unity, the opened dialog is given the focus.

Works with kwin instead of metacity, seems metacity focus stealing prevention is stealing the focus the wrong way :D
