I tried to propose that this bug be fixed during Oneiric alpha and it still has not been dealt with. This will be a major confusion for newer users come release day and it's current state is in conflict with the stated goals of Precise !! As it stands now it is 'user_unfriendly'.

kind regards,

Giving it a little thought, unless you've other plans, it seems that the unity-2d session should show Ubuntu-2d on the panel. It maintains continuity from the login & lets users know that they're on what they choose.
Or if they choose Ubuntu then it's an immediate sign that something has gone wrong.

There is also a surprising number of requests from users as to how to tell if they're on the 3d or 2d session. There's no reason not to make this a bit more upfront.

I guess you al must have something brilant in mind to let users (new) know what session they're on.
Though have recently seen suggestion to add to a ubuntu wiki a description on how userscan differentiate.
Personally don't see what the big deal is to make a 3 character edit to the source & present the session a bit more obviously

So I see in 12.10 it's planned to - according to MPT
"It’s been hard to find which version of Ubuntu you are using. This will now have a dedicated menu item."
So is this going to be backported to 12.04 or has it been decided that it's ok if it's "hard to find which version of Ubuntu you are using" in 12.04?
