Unity 2D (5.6) Dash stops working with Compiz

I run Unity 2D 5.6
Since at least 5.4, the Dash works some times, and it stops working.
On clicking the Ubuntu Button or pressing Super, a triangle is drawn on the right of the button, but nothing else happens.

are you using Compiz? Not sure why, but that could cause problems

Currently, Compiz doesn't work (LP #980185), so the first thing I do after log on is log me in a tty to type metacity -d precise:0.
This time, after having loaded metacity, after Compiz crashed, I opened the Dash. (I mean I tried to do so).
Indeed, the Dash kept closed.
So if the fact of having ran Compiz on Unity 2D troubled it and made the Dash stop working even if Compiz stop working but metacity does, this should not help you, but else, that should mean that even if we run metacity, the Dash should stop working.

I contribute to the development of a Compiz plugin, and after each compilation of the code, I install the new binaries locally, and I have to restart Compiz to check the new release. After each restart, the Dash dies.
I restart Compiz with compiz --replace &
