Unity-2d Dash Enter no longer defaults to first item in list

Running Unity-2d 5.4.0-0ubuntu1 in up to date Precise.
To replicate problem:
Bring up Dash
Type cal
a list of applications is shown starting with Calculator (or another app). Hit Enter.

What happens:
The Dash is closed.

What should happen
The first app in the list should be opened without having to manually select it. This was the action up until a couple of days ago, now it is necessary to manually select the app before hitting enter. I really hope this is not by design as I see it as a significant negative feature if so.

In Unity-3d the operation is as it used to be in 2d. The first app in the list is opened without having to be manually selected.
