Bug Description

i use a dual screen setup. the launcher appears on the left screen, the panel solely on the right.

the usage problem is, that neither menubar and window buttons of maximized apps on the left screen appear in the panel (on the right screen).

but i guess that both screens should have their own panel as i can see here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/812211/+attachment/2214674/+files/launcher%20button.png

i'm attaching a screenshot of my screens. note: the left screen has a height of 1024px, the right one of 1080px.

i'm using unity-2d in version 4.12.0-ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 11.10beta2.

hm, i found out that it's a tricky situation, a dilemma in fact:
i need to restart metacity with 'metacity --replace' to get any window decorations, but that will remove the panel on the left screen.
so the other way around i could have a two panels, but having windows to stay where they spawn is eventually less exciting as not only the maximized ones are affected.

i don't know who to blame for that. ;-)

as far as i can see this is a different issue.
i can't even move the cursor off the screen to reach the panel as described in the other bug. the virtual screen is fully covered by the physical screens.

and to describe it explcitly: when the desktop session starts there are actually two panels, one on each screen. but as soon as i restart metacity to get window decorations, there will only be one on the right screen.

btw, i tried mutter, but that didn't work at all.

Hmm what graphics card do you have? Can you try disabling compositing (`gconftool-2 --set --type bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager false`)? Take a look at bug 788607 and bug 824099, maybe your max texture size is the problem.

i have a PowerColor X1050 graphic card.

disabling the compositing manager doesn't help.

i can't observe the problems described in the other bug reports respectively haven't installed compiz. so i think the max texture size doesn't matter. but how could i figure out that maximum anyway?
