Bug Description

Hovering the pointer over notify-osd bubbles whilst running the unity-2d session (metacity + compositing) doesn't cause the opacity to decrease correctly anymore, although they do seem to blur on hover. I've attached a screencast of the issue, which shows the opacity beginning to decrease as the pointer approaches the bubble, but then it appears to reverse again and the opacity returns to normal by the time the pointer is positioned over the notification.

As discussed on IRC, I've not yet been able to reproduce this with compiz or metacity (+compositor). It will need further investigation what's happening on your side. I've assigned myself and put it on "Ubuntu later" milestone as we're currently still very busy with bug-fixing for unity on Oneiric.

I have this issue too on a Lenovo X200 laptop with integrated graphics. If there is anything I can do to help or test, please let me know.

Just to follow up, this is still the case under unity-2d (metacity) with compositor-effects (in gconf /apps/metacity/general) _disabled_.

In my case, I think this bug disappeared when I changed from Unity2D to Unity3D.
So either it has been fixed (which I doubt) or it only affects Unity2D.
