[dash] Cannot launch multiple app instances using middle click

Bug Description
Using a fresh beta 1 install.
In "3D" Unity I can launch multiple instances of an app by middle clicking the app icon in the dash.
If I log in using a Unity 2D session instead, middle clicking does nothing. There appears to be no way to launch multiple versions of an app unless possible from within the app itself.
