Bug Description

I am using ubuntu 10.10 and after installing unity there were weired behavior especially in the unity-2d-panel.
first, in the status icon of pidgin. the status only show up correctly when I run pidgin then unity-2d-panel. otherwise if i am going to run the panel first then pidgin, the icon becomes invisible.
second i had problems in banshee. when i was using unity i allowed a plugin in banshee that shows a system tray. however, that caused banshee to crash and each time i run banshee,it opens for less than 1 second and crash.
when i close unity-panel it works fine.

affects: unity → unity-2d

Thank you for taking the time to report.
The pidging part of the bug has already been reported in bug #703389. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

In Ubuntu Natty, we will not allow applications to use the systray apart from a few selected ones for which there is today no alternative (e.g. Wine applications). As for Banshee, in Ubuntu Natty it will be the default media player and will be nicely integrated with the sound menu rendering that systray plugin obsolete.
