Bug Description

trying to use unetbootin to make a puppy linux usb and it does everything up to installng the bootloader then hangs forever til i kill the window. also when it did finish the entire unetbootin process before, when i tried to boot from the usb it gave a strange screen that said "unetbootin Default" or ":Default Unetbootin" and it wouldn't load the os just kept counting down from 10 over and over again. I looked in the syslinux.cfg file and it had the parameters of the strange bootscreen all defaults. My question is:
does this mean that this is a problem with unetbootin or with how my computers reading the usb?
i have used unetbootin to boot from the same usb on the same computer before and it has worked fine so i believe this is a problem with unetbootin in this case ...
                                                                                                                                Thanksagain

What OS are you running UNetbootin from? If it isn't Windows, do you still have the same issue when using the current version from Windows?

This happened initially when i ran unetbootin from windows 7 , it would mess up the boot screen so that you could not boot at all. I have not encountered the same error when using unetbootin, on linux (ubuntu 10.10, mint linux 10) but when i would try to use unetbootin to make bootable pen drives, it would not work, specifically to make windows xp bootables. One program that seemed to bypass a lot of the problems that unetbootin was having was this nifty thing called multisystem, made by some of linux heads in france.
They have done an excellent job so far with their implementation of P.E. environment, which i believe they isolinux for. The only problem with their program is that it does not support just any .ISO. They are a work in progress so i can't really complain, MultiSystem allowed me to get puppy linux to boot on a older computer that had a bad bootloader.A Unetbootin made pendrive did not boot however. I believe unetbootin is a great thing, i hope we can fix it. Thanks again Geza....

Did seem to hang a little while running on 12.04 beta-2 however it did eventually finish.

My observation similar to Hans.

* Loading of files was very quick (less then 30 seconds to load everything from the ISO to the USB3 stick)
* As soon as it hit "installing syslinux bootloader" everything slowed down to a crawl, completed syslinux after around 5 minutes.
* It took another 3 minutes after reaching 100% to get to "Installation Complete" with the option to reboot or exit

I didn't get a chance to look at what top was showing, I almost wonder if it was flushing a memory cache to the USB or something though. Otherwise one would think that installing syslinux to the boot sector would be MUCH faster then copying over 600+MB of data.

ironstorm, your observation is actually correct, the flushing does indeed occur when the syslinux installation happens
