Hello, I am experiencing exactly the same problem as described, and the screen on which the installation hangs is identical.

I am trying to install 12.10 Gnome Remix, on an AMD 64-bit machine, from a 16Gb USB stick created using unetbootin. I can select either the "Try Ubuntu without installing" or "Install Ubuntu" options and the errors produced are identical.

I don't know whether it is relevant but I have a Gigabyte motherboard and have run Ubuntu on this machine before (I am trying to do a clean install from 12.04.)

If there are any workarounds for this then I'd be very keen to hear about them - thanks.

Oli.

I have the same problem as well. I was using 12.04 64bits without any major issue.
I have kernel panic message only with the 64bits. Sometimes I am able to boot the live usb version but most of the time I have a kernel panic message.

I was able to install the 32bit version without troubles. I need to keep the 64bit capabilities of my computer.

What did change since 12.04??
