Bug Description

I installed Chromium browser, because I like it much better than Firefox. The only problem is that each time I start Chromium, it wants to set itself as default browser. If I click to set, the bar disappears, but at the next start it comes up again.
In Preferences, there is a button saying "Make Chromium My Default Browser". If I click on it, it just stays active and Firefox stays as the default.
What to do now?

Try to do this.
Click to your name in the upper-right corner, then System Settings.

Find System Info, click it.

On the left now you should have "Default Applications".

Try to set chromium from there.

Ohh thank you very much, I couldn't find default applications menu, the only place I didn't look for it is the System Info... :D

It seems to me that you solved :)

Can you please post a screenshot of the default applications window?

I had a similar issue and removing Chromium's config directory solved
it for me. Try to temporarily (re)move it:

mv ~/.config/chromium ~/.config/chromium.bak

Now, try to start Chromium and see if you can set it as default. If it
works for you, then remove chromium.bak from ~/.config. You might want
to make sure you have everything synced first.

@Henrik Görlin:
Your suggestion and setting Chromium in the System Settings than restart helped. I don't know which one solved the problem, but it's working now great! :)
Thanks for the suggestions and sorry for messing around... :)
Btw setting as default from the browser itself isn't working, so it IS a bug, please look after it.

I had no problems with that at all. Did you have chromium installed before you switched to ugr?

Can you see what happens if it is uninstalled, then reinstalled?

Yeah I tried it, but didn't work.
Though, it happened with the version 0.0.2, I didn't have time to try the latest UGR release.

There was a problem a few weeks ago for me that messed up my default browser settings also - Chrome was set as my default browser, and no longer said that it was. It was fixed after a bunch of updates. Please try running all updates and see if the issue still exists.

This is probably related to all of the gnome-settings-daemon problems.

This is a general issue with Chromium and gnome, not this project in particular, this problem existed before.

Chromium makes a "custom setting" rather than the way gnome does it, thus when you set it in System Info, chromium doesn't think it's default, same thing happened in gnome 2. Since Gnome3 no longer supports setting a custom option for default programs, here's where the issues arise.

This bug exists in Fedora 15 as well, it's nothing new. The work around is to make chromium not check if it's default and just change it in System Info.

Either the Gnome team needs to re-add a custom option or chromium needs to fix how it handles making itself default.

This is fixed in Oneiric. Every release from 1.0 forward in addition to users who use 0.3.0.3 and above on Oneiric will have this fixed. Marking as fix committed. Update to fix released when 1.0 comes out.
