Bug Description

[On Ubuntu 22.04 LTS]
Issue 1 : It is showing blank screen after unpacking distro screen ,
Steps : Installed from store >> Opened Ubuntu 22.04 >> GUI >> GUI screen finished unpacking and at bottom it says "Almost done installer will soon require your attention" >> New GUI opens with Ubuntu Wsl but its complete blank . This screen was supposed to create user, mount dir,etc and finish setup but its blank.
>> Closed that blanked window >> launched ubuntu 22.04, it opened as root and i think used default config.
Followed this step to launch setup again and i can confirm this time it was properly visible.

command used was : sudo LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 /usr/libexec/wsl-setup

Issue 2 : Complete windows crash on finish click in installation setup
As mentioned above using the above command GUI setup screen was properly visible and set username , password , mount dir and clicked on finish . It shows setting up or updating (pc crashed immediately not enough time to see that screen). See below image , it says NetAdapterCx.sys failed

[On Ubuntu (preview) version 22.10]
Tried ubuntu preview after above issues
Issue 3 : GUI setup crashes and switches to terminal setup to set username but it doesn't take input
Steps : After installing from store launched the ubuntu preview app see screenshot below image in order, was unable to copy installation logs

After this GUI Setup failed to launch and opened terminal for setting up username (It was mentioned in terminal default installer failed to launch)
So i then began entering username in terminal but it wasn't taking any input (Enter Unix username), had to close terminal.

Issue 4 : Windows crash on apt update (Similar to Issue 2 On Ubuntu 22.04 LTS)
Steps : Continuing from issue3, opened ubuntu preview app, since user was not setup it launched as root user, i entered apt update in terminal and windows crashed just after that

It showed same green screen (or blue screen of death) as mentioned in issue 2

This happens to me with WSL2 installed from the MS Store, there are some error at the end of the unpacking (something with fonts I think) can’t manage to take a screenshot. I use this work around:

$ wsl --shutdown
$ wsl --unregister Ubuntu-22.04
$ ubuntu2204.exe --ui=tui

With this I was able to finish the setup.

HP laptop with the must recent Windows 11 update. Intel CPU and GPU
