FireFox / Youtube can Interrupt the Sound system

Bug Description

Even with Nice set at -90, surfing can shut down the sound system, even though the
Video playing from Youtube keeps being visible and playing (sound stops).

The only way to get the sound going again is to reload the Youtube Video.

Then its a matter of touching no keys / leaving the mouse alone,
to hear the entire song through - frustrating !

This on 10.10, just installed.

I also notice that Gnome Alsa Mixer forgets the last settings
when this Bug occurs. Is there a save command on any of
the Alsa mixers ??

Great system !!!

This description resembles a kernel issue. Which kernel are you using?
You can find out from `cat /proc/version*' in a Terminal/xterm. Please
attach the output from that command (no quotes) in a response here.

Further to this Bug, I notice that there are stops and starts while watchng YouTube,
and streaming music.

Is there a way of finding out where the bottleneck is ?? Some
monitoring program, or similar,  etc ?

I may make a separate Bug Report for this.

Regards
Ken

Hi Daniel

I have 2 Ubuntu Studio machines. The scanned file
I just sent you was from my working machine,
i.e. the one that exhibits less problems.

I will repeat the process on the newer-build, far buggier
machine. It will be the younger file. This machine was
not fully created during the system install, (see one of my
other bug reports). Instead, all of the Audio software
packages were installed separately,  one-by one, after
system install.

The newer, buggier machine I want to use exclusively
for Audio.

At the moment I am doing bug checks/comparisons between
these two machines - will include my findings in the various

Bug Reports I am submitting.

Call me if you need to - we could cover a lot of
ground in a 15 minute call.

Hi Daniel

The buggy machine, below, has a Dell Soundcard
in one of the PCI slots, but I still see it refers to
the MoBo based,  "RealTek" sound-system.

My good machine only uses the MoBo sound-system.

A lot of the difference I am seeing between these
two machines seem like the system keeps getting
confused as to what is talking to what.

Good luck with the analysis !

If we can handle some of these niggles, this is
definitely an award winning system in the making.
We like it !!!

Ken Gibbs
