Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store

After purchasing two albums at once, one track from each album is "stuck". They are listed as:
"Preparing your download..."
and
"Transferring to your Ubuntu One storage"
in the "My downloads" view in rhythmbox.

The tracks do not appear on the local system nor in the web UI for Ubuntu One.

A subsequently purchased track transferred and downloaded immediately, so it does not appear that these tracks are blocking any sort of queue.

There are also two exceptions listed in the attached log; I am uncertain if this is related.

Bought a 17 track album some 14+ hours ago. Still 3 tracks are not downloaded from the shop to Ubuntu One. They have the status "Preparing for download".

Also some files changed mysteriously their downloaded/preparing status.

And at the moment I have one track more locally in Rhythmbox than in the U1 web interface. In other words all three locations are out of sync now.

Steffen Krumbholz (skrumbholz) wrote :

...so I did another test. Deleted everything in Rhytmbox AND Ubuntu One storage. Then started Rhytmbox again and connected to the music store.

The "Your Downloads" Page again reports exactly the same three files as "Preparing your download" and all other tracks as "Downloading to your storage". But nothings happens at all! No files are shown in the Ubuntu One web interface.

I hope that helps fixing the issue.

Well. I bought another album and everything was fine this time. The problem with the first one is still there. Some files downloaded. Some not. So, I was watching what exactly happens...

What if the freezing downloads to U1 storage have sth. to do with filenames? In my case there are different remixes of songs. In the store they are called differently -> "Song1 (single)" and "Song1 (remix)". But the downloaded file on U1 storage is always named -> "Song1.mp3"

Hi Jeff,

I had this problem too where half an album downloaded and then a little while later the other half finished up. The good news is the songs that were stuck before managed to get downloaded.

I had a quick chat with Stuart on the phone and they've been sprinting all week working on issues like this; the team is likely travelling home today but I will ask one of them to update the status on Monday, thanks for being patient!

Jorge,

Thanks for the update... I hope this does indeed get resolved soon.

One thought though... I disagree with the Importance set at High on this... it seems, to me at least, that this is a Critical issue, without question.

The goal is to have a successful music store that drives revenue for Canonical and competes against the likes of iTunes, et al. If customers have THIS kind of issue on opening day, this venture will have a very low chance of success...

I'd almost go as far as saying that, from a business standpoint, fixing Rhythmbox and U1MS is as critical, if not more so, than most of the remaining open Lucid issues...

Anyway, I am very glad Stuart and the team has been working hard on this. Other than this issue, for me, it's been a great experience and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that it goes very, very well for us.

I still have problems getting some tracks. Since days.

First case:
Downloaded the "Bear" single by The Antlers. It contains the track and a remix of it. I guess both named "Bear.mp3". I once got the single version, than when the remix got downloaded, the single version disappeared in my rhythmbox folder. Now I only have the remix, and though deleting it, I cannot get the other track again. It didn't work any way, so I deleted my "The Antlers"-folder directly on my ubuntu one storage. Then I purchased it again, but nothing happened. AFAIK, second till third download from UM1S/7digital you don't have to pay again. (however, that's another question). The one track remains "Queued". It doesn't even reach to stucking at "Tranferring to your storage".

Second case:
Album "Riot on an empty street" by Kings Of Convenience. There are two tracks featuring Feist. The artist description for those two tracks and its folder (!) on the U1 storage is "Kings Of Convenience featuring Feist". So far so good. But: Only one of the featuring tracks is transferred to the storage. And curiously another track of the album, only by "Kings Of Convenience" is not transferred to my U1 storage, either. It stucks at "Transferring to your storage".

Different cases, but in both I have no idea. It's ok because it is still beta. But I still hope to get these 3 tracks altogether -someday. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. Bought a Gorillaz album, but I only get 11 of 15 songs.

3 song stalls saying: Transferring to your Ubuntu One storage
1 song saying: There was a problem completing the download. Try downloading again
Clicking the try downloading link again and least nothing happens.

I too, find it critical if this kind of basic functionality doesn't work. No one likes to get ripped off from an online store.
Hope you find a solution on these issues!

Worst case so far (none of 3 songs):

"Jessica / Kokomo" single by Adam Green. 3 out of 3 songs stuck at "Transferring to your storage" For nearly 24 hours. So 0%. Sure shot. :)

Again, on song has a feature with Ben Kweller. Seems that different artist tags/descriptions also may cause problems. Each song of the 3 has a completely different title name. So not the problem with equal file names based on title tag.

So far after a few hours most tracks got transferred and synced with rhythmbox. But here none. Hope my descriptions can help fixing this bug.

There's definetely a problem with songs and remixes of it, which have the same file name. Everything worked for me after a few days, but still not working is the "Bear" single by The Antlers, both files are named the same. the original song and the remix, though different tags. by the way, when I change tags in some tracks (deleting (album version) e.g. for lastfm compatibility), then the song gets synced again, though file name not changed. however, that last is another issue.

I have also looked in my U1 folders locally and in the cloud and do not see any downloaded songs.

I also tried firing up U1MS on another computer of mine, but it shows the same status on the "My Downloads" page.....as well as trying to go to "Home" and back to "My Downloads", no change with that.

What about the complexity concerning the file names on the servers? Could this be related?

Hi all!
after I saw the Fix Committed note today, I tried to download the songs again.. I will try to describe it more to give hints..

By the songs I was missing appeared something like. "An error ocurred, Try downloading again", I clicked it.

On the songs I was missing appeared "Transfering to Your Ubuntu One storage", on all the others "Downloading 0 MB" (Why is that? The files on my hard drive were not changed, I have checked. Although it does not do any malfunction, I guess it looks a little weird..)

Some two hours later I checked online my U1 files, and YES!! the missing songs were there at last! :-) The sad thing is that Rhythmbox still does not see them and still shows "Transfering to Your Ubuntu One storage" some two hours after I checked the files indeed are on U1.

The bug might be fixed, but it is not the pleasent experience "I wish, I buy, I listen" :-(

But thanks for the work!

Good day for all.

I've been following this bug and to date it isn't completely fixed.

Here is my experience:

1) Using U1MS in Rhythmbox I purchased the song "Sun is Shining (Yes King Remix) - Bob Marley & The Wallers Roots, Rock, Remixed"
2) After paying for song with PayPal and going to the "My downloads" tab, I get the eternal "Transferring to your Ubuntu One storage"
3) I've tried leaving the download page, coming back, etc. Nothing worked and it is "stuck"
4) I did an update this morning
5) I still get the eternal transfer message
6) I went to the online Ubuntu One interface which I don't normally do, and I saw my music there.
7) The song is nowhere to be seen on my computer. Not in Rhythmbox or in my Ubuntu One virtual folder

Now, I haven't been to the online file manager for a while so I don't know if the song was visible there from the start. So... there is still bugs related to the desktop integration (Nautillus and Rhytmbox)

The queued... status appeared but nothing happened, I left it about 20 minutes and still the queued... status. I checked the remove ubuntu one and my file was there, but locally the .ubuntuone folder had been created but no subfolders with in it.

I then clicked the next file. As soon as I did this the first file changed to Transferring to your Ubuntu One Storage. Odd because I know it's already there. Hi, seems I got the same problem.
History: Upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 (AMD64 version) about 12 days ago and signed in to U1. Then bought a first album on May-04, which only partially downloaded. The files were correctly transferred to the U1 cloud, so I could download them manually from there via the web interface, but snyc to .ubuntuone got stuck after 5 of 12 files. Then I tried to sync a local folder to the cloud, which also didn't work properly - just about 3 or 4 subfolders created with less than 10 files transferred after at least an hour or so. I seemed to not be able to stop the sync with the cloud by using u1sdtool, which itself got hung after the 3rd try. Next step I followed tutorial for "How do I completely remove and reinstall the U1 client sw", connected my client to the cloud and bought some more music, which also transferred o.K. into the cloud, but has not synced a single file with my client yet (after 6 days). Numerous tries of disconnect - reconnect didn't change anything. Tried to sync another local folder into the cloud - did not even create a folder there.
Some more observations: After stopping all sync by removing the U1 client sw I was and am still not able to remove the sync folder for my local folder in the cloud - could only remove the subfolders. When disconnecting and reconnecting my client I always get a mysterious error message - just a completely empty message box with "UbuntuOne error message" as title.
Hope you get this fixed now anytime soon, I really want this U1 cloud!!!

Those are two different issues.

Your description sounds like you are having problems syncing between your local system and cloudspace, which is NOT this bug.

However, here is the relevant bug and a workaround for what I think your issue is:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntuone-client/+bug/571548

-----------------------------------------------

WORK AROUND:
Open Applicaitons->Accessories->Terminal and run: touch ~/.ubuntuone/Purchased\ from\ Ubuntu\ One/placeholder; u1sdtool -q; u1sdtool -c

This will put a "placeholder" file in your ~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/ folder and then force the syncdaemon to reconnect and try to sync that folder.
